Join the Reading Royale Kingdom!
November 1, 2026 - February 28, 2027
Reading Royale is a free countywide reading competition created by the Yavapai County Free Library District for K–12 students. The 2026–27 competition begins November 1, 2026, and ends February 28, 2027.
Students can participate from home, school, the library, or anywhere else they read or listen. Reading Royale tracks minutes instead of books completed, which means students can choose reading experiences that fit their interests, age, reading level, and support needs.
What Counts as Reading?
Students can log minutes spent reading books, e-books, comics, magazines, and other reading materials. Audiobooks, being read aloud to, reading aloud independently, reading with a family member or friend, and reading in languages other than English also count.

Reading Royale Frequently Asked Questions
Does it cost anything?
No. Reading Royale is completely free for students and families.
Does my child need a library card?
No. A library card is helpful for borrowing books, e-books, and audiobooks, but it is not required to join the challenge.
Can my child participate if our school is not involved?
Yes. Individual students may participate and remain eligible for student awards.
Who can participate?
Any K–12 student in Yavapai County may participate, including students in public, charter, private, and homeschool settings. Students may join even if their school is not participating in Reading Royale as a whole.
How does my child sign up?
Students create or log in to a free Beanstack account (yavapaicounty.beanstack.org), then join the Yavapai County Free Library District’s Reading Royale Challenge. Younger students may need help from a parent or guardian. Families can use a Beanstack family account to manage more than one child’s reading.
What if my child already has a Beanstack account?
Your child should use their existing Beanstack account and join the Reading Royale Challenge. They do not need to create a second account.
Is there a limit to how many minutes my child can log?
No. There are no daily or weekly limits. Students should log the actual amount of time they spend reading or listening.
When does the challenge end?
Reading Royale runs from November 1, 2026, through February 28, 2027. Winners will be reviewed after the challenge closes, and award recognition details will be announced later.
How are winners chosen?
Student winners are chosen based on the highest total number of reading minutes logged in Beanstack within their grade level. There are first, second, and third-place awards for every grade, kindergarten through 12th grade.
What can students win?
In each grade level, first place receives a trophy and a $100 gift card; second place receives a certificate and a $50 gift card; and third place receives a certificate and a $25 gift card.
Will my child’s name or information be shared publicly if they win?
A parent or guardian will be asked for consent before a winning student is publicly recognized. A student can receive any prize they earn whether or not the family gives permission for public recognition.
What information is needed to create a Beanstack account?
When enrolling, students may be asked for their name, email address, school, grade level, and phone number if one is not already connected to the account. Parents or guardians should help younger students create and manage their accounts.
Does my child have to read independently?
No. Shared reading, being read aloud to, and audiobooks all count. This challenge is designed to welcome readers of different ages, abilities, and reading levels.
Do audiobooks and read-alouds count?
Yes. Log one reading minute for every minute you spend listening to an audiobook or being read aloud to.
If listening to an audiobook at a faster speed, how much time should be logged?
Log the actual time spent listening, not the audiobook’s full running time. For example, if you finish a 7-hour audiobook at 2x speed, log 3.5 hours of reading time.
Can we log reading completed outside of school?
Yes. Reading completed at home, school, the public library, during travel, or elsewhere can be logged in Beanstack.
How are reading minutes checked?
Reading minutes are self-reported through Beanstack and are based on the honor system. Beanstack will flag unusual activity to be reviewed by Library District staff.
What if we need help with Beanstack or need an accommodation?
Contact the Yavapai County Free Library District. Families without dependable online access may be able to use school or public-library computers. Special tracking arrangements may be available when needed.
